About us
The Community Group
We're a group of residents working to keep Farnley Tyas a friendly, thriving place to live, open to all and powered entirely by goodwill.
Our story
From a kitchen-table idea to the village's voice
The Community Group grew, back in 2006, from a handful of neighbours who wanted to make sure residents' wishes were heard as the village's future was planned. They gathered feedback from across the village, held an open meeting at the Bowling Club, elected a committee and drew up a constitution.
A Community Plan followed in 2008, delivered to every household. Nearly two decades on, that same spirit carries us, neighbours giving their time so the whole village benefits. We're affiliated to the Kirkburton District Civic Society.
Our aims
What we're here to do
- Represent the interests of residents to the local authorities
- Organise projects and events for the benefit of the village
- Provide a platform for dialogue and mutual help among neighbours
- Encourage everyone to take part in village life and decisions
- Preserve the village's cultural, historical and natural heritage
Over the years
A village that knows how to come together
Scarecrow festivals since 2010, garden safaris and car rallies, quiz nights and open-air theatre, with A Midsummer Night's Dream and A Christmas Carol among them.
Alongside the big occasions, there's the quiet, steady work: the monthly Tidy Tyas litter picks, the Garden Gang tending planters and borders, food-bank collections, flower displays, and keeping the village defibrillator ready for when it's needed.
The committee
The people behind it
